Rubik’s Fun Competition

On June 26, 2010, Abel Brata and his fellow cubers from the Jakarta Rubik’s Cube Club (JRCC) collaborated with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to hold a speedcubing competition at the Plasa Festival in Jakarta. The competition featured a guest star from China, Haiyan Zhuang, who was invited by Abel Brata. Haiyan Zhuang held the world record for single blindfolded 3x3x3 with a time of 30 seconds in 2010. The event also featured a fun duel exhibition between Haiyan Zhuang (World Record Single BLD) and Muhammad Iril Khairul Anam (World Record Multiple BLD). Iril held the world record for Multi-BLD after defeating the previous record set by Tong Jiang from China in January 2010 by solving 15 Rubik’s cubes blindfolded in 1 hour.

This event was not just a showcase of impressive cubing skills, but also a positive activity that promoted a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle, especially compared to the destructive nature of drug abuse. The event was organized in collaboration with the BNN to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to promote positive alternatives to drug use, such as speedcubing.

Indonesia Open 2009

On August 31, 2009, the first official speedcubing competition in Indonesia under the World Cube Association (WCA) was successfully held. The competition was attended by participants from various countries such as Indonesia (the host), Malaysia, Singapore, the Netherlands, Belgium, and others. Abel Brata set a national record for the Rubik’s Cube 3x3x3 category and achieved a podium finish for the Multiple Blindfolded 3x3x3 category in this competition.

The WCA is an international organization that governs the official competitions of Rubik’s Cube and other twisty puzzles. Speedcubing, the activity of solving these puzzles as quickly as possible, has gained popularity worldwide and has become a competitive sport with its own set of rules and regulations.

Indonesia, as one of the countries with a growing speedcubing community, hosted its first official WCA-sanctioned competition in 2009. The event was held in Jakarta and attracted participants from various countries in Asia and Europe.

Djarum Black Innovation Award

The Djarum Black Innovation Awards 2009 was a successful and lively event held at Cilandak Town Square on August 8th, 2009. The event showcased the works of the BIA finalists from 2007 to 2008 and featured outstanding performances. The winners were announced, and Arif Kurnianto won with his invention of Blind Gaple, Muhammad Rois Abidin won with the Bagcamp and Cankingz (a device to contain and bring durian into airplane cabin), Bharoto Yekti S.Ds won with the Templast Sampah, and Dika Gusti Nugraha won the People’s Choice Award with his innovative creation E.B.I.

Jakarta Rubik’s Cube Club (JRCC) played an important role in the Night Black Innovation Awards 2009, as they were invited to showcase the Rubik’s Cube and its relationship to innovation. Singapore Open 2009

On the weekend of February 28 to March 1, 2009, Singapore hosted the Singapore Open 2009, a speedcubing competition that brought together competitors from all over Asia. The Singapore Open 2009 was held at SAFRA Toa Payoh, a multi-purpose facility in the heart of Singapore. The event was organized by the World Cube Association (WCA), the international governing body for speedcubing, and attracted a diverse range of competitors from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and Singapore.

Abel Brata and Arnold Ong from Indonesia was competing on various speedcubing categories. Abel secured a spot on the podium in the Pyraminx category, earning a medal for his efforts. The Pyraminx is a pyramid-shaped puzzle that requires competitors to solve it as quickly as possible.

In addition to his podium finish, Abel also set several national records in the competition. National records are set when a competitor achieves a particularly fast time or solves the puzzle in a particularly difficult way.
