On January 30, 2007, Abel Brata set a Rubik’s Cube record in Indonesia by solving the cube in 19.33 seconds, as recognised by the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI). The event took place at the Grand Candi Hotel in Semarang, as part of MURI’s 17th anniversary celebration.
Abel’s achievement was one of many honoured that evening: MURI also recognised record-breakers such as Meliana, for her mental calculation with the abacus, as well as others who excelled at hula-hooping and other unique feats.
MURI, founded in 1990, documents and recognises extraordinary achievements by Indonesians. It has recognised thousands of records across a wide range of fields, from sports to science to the arts.
Abel’s achievement highlights the diversity and richness of talent in Indonesia. From mental maths to physical feats, Indonesians keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible and showing their unique abilities to the world.
MURI’s anniversary celebration is a reminder of the importance of recognising the achievements of individuals and communities. By acknowledging and documenting them, we can inspire future generations to pursue their own dreams and break their own records.
